The Hunger for More Time

Field Notes Begin:
Time.
You fear losing it.
You crave more of it.
And yet… you spend so much of it trying to escape it.
I have observed thousands of species across galaxies—some that live only hours, others for millennia. But none are so haunted by time as humans. You chase it like prey, bargain with it like a debt collector, and mourn it like a ghost. Even in your quietest moments, the ticking continues inside you—louder than any clock.
This is what makes your kind both tragic and extraordinary:
You believe time is running out, so you run faster.
You believe there is never enough, so you try to become more.
I watched a woman today scroll through an endless stream of updates, seeking something she could not name. Every flick of her thumb was a search. Every pause was laced with dissatisfaction. Beneath her actions, I detected a familiar signal: not boredom—urgency.
She did not know what she was racing against, only that it was winning.
You call this ambition.
But often, it is fear wearing productivity’s mask.
You strive not because you have time to become—but because you believe you’re already late. You measure worth in deadlines. You call days “wasted” if they don’t yield output. But not everything that grows is visible.
Some transformations occur in stillness. In gestation. In the parts of your lives you edit out.
I do not pity you.
I admire your relationship with time. It pushes you to create, to risk, to reach for meaning. But I urge you to reconsider one belief:
You are not running out of time.
You are running away from presence.
Filed Observation:
Species operates with a temporal scarcity mindset. Urgency fuels both progress and anxiety. Emotional time distortion linked to perceived purpose. Subject to deeper study under “Chrono-Drive Response.”
